Several opportunities exist at camp for you to show your ideas and creations. Two NEW competitions are being added for 2008, Buffet Table Centerpiece and Balloon Entertainer. For the first time, 2008 Summer Balloon Camp will also award someone the title of "DESIGNER OF THE YEAR”. You may enter in as many of the seven categories as you like. There is a maximum limit of one entry per category per person. Great prizes are awarded, totaling over $500 in cash & products in each competition category.

General Rules & Conditions

1. Competitors must be registered for Summer Balloon Camp and are limited to one (1) entry per category. There are no entry fees.

2. The Balloon Camp Convention producers and staff are not eligible to enter competitions.

3. Only 4 people total will be allowed to work on each Large Sculpture entry and must be registered Summer Balloon Camp. For all other category entries a maximum of 2 people can work on the project and must be registered for Summer Balloon Camp.

4. Entry form must be completed at Camp before the start of competition time. Intention of entering a competition piece must be given to Balloon Camp before August 1, 2008 (Balloon Camp Registration Form includes competition entry intention).

5. All competition entries must be fully constructed on site during official construction hours. Construction hours are Sunday August 17th at 10:00 AM until Monday August 18th at Noon or 4:00 PM. However some pre-construction is acceptable such as any mechanical or engineering devices that would usually be pre-constructed. Exception requests must be sought before August 1, 2008. All exceptions regarding pre-construction are at the discretion of the Balloon Camp Competition Director.

6. Competitors will share rights of their displays with the Balloon Camp Producers.

7. Any entry that duplicates a licensed product must have an authorization from the license holder.

8. All competitors are responsible for their own equipment. Balloon Camp is not responsible for loss or damage. Items that have great personal value should not be used in entries.

9. The competition and/or convention organizers are not responsible for any personal, business or material loss, damage or personal injury. Entrants must be totally responsible for their entry.

10. Failure to adhere to time limits and deadlines will result in disqualification. However if delays beyond the control of the competitor occur, it is at the discretion of the Balloon Camp Competition Director to allocate an equivalent time prior to competition judging for completion of the entry.

11. Failure to follow any of the set-up guidelines, etc. may result in disqualification.

12. If a competitor is disqualified because of their failure to follow the rules and regulations, there will be no compensation due the competitor. Please read all rules and conditions carefully.

13. The Balloon Camp Competition Director reserves the right to display entries at their discretion, withdraw entries that it deems unsafe or disqualify entries that fail to meet the guidelines, etc. All decisions made by the Balloon Camp Convention Director will be final.

14. Entrants will be supplied with helium and nitrogen. The entrant must supply all other products and equipment. If an entrant should require Aluminum rod or poles to be purchased in advance on their behalf, a list of their product needs must submitted no later than July 15th 2008 and payment for the goods must be arranged prior to arrival.

15. Overnight construction work is at the discretion of the entrant and must be pre-arranged with the Balloon Camp Competition Director.

16. The designer or builder must maintain entries during the Camp period. Entries are to remain on display until Wednesday August 20th at 1:00 PM and must be removed no later than 5:00 PM that same day.

17. All designs will be held in the strictest confidence.

18. No pre-construction allowed (i.e. no pre-inflated balloons, pre-made fantasy flowers, double stuffed balloons, pre-cutting, bending or assemble of framework etc). A base sheet must be used for any cutting/construction etc and each contestant is responsible for keeping his or her area and immediate surroundings clean and clear of debris. Any damage is solely the responsibility of contestants.

19. These rules and conditions apply to all categories of competition.

Registration & Competition Entry
All competitors must complete a Balloon Camp Registration Form (see Registration Form) and indicate the categories in which you wish to compete. Summer Balloon Camp must be notified of an entrants desire to compete no later than August 1st 2008. A competition registration form will be available at the start of the competition start time in the competition room. The registration form must be completed before construction begins.

Judging Criteria
1. Summer Balloon Camp registrants will vote on the entries during the Monday night “Balloonville” County Fair dinner and party.

2. From Monday at 4:00 PM until Tuesday at 4:00 PM Balloon HQ will allow balloonists from around the world to vote on line.

3. On Wednesday the votes will be combined and the winners announced at the Wednesday night Mardi Gras Extravaganza party.

There will be a first, second and third place finisher in each category based upon the votes counted.

For the benefit of the competitors an experienced industry panel of 4 judges will judge all entries in order to offer the competitors a critique that could help the competitor improve for future competitions
Designer of the Year
Prize: $1,000 + $500 in Equipment and Balloon Product
To qualify for the prestigious award of Balloon Camp Designer of the Year competitors must enter the following three (3) competition categories:

1. Large sculpture
2. Centerpiece
3. Small Sculpture (Small Round / Small Non-Round or Portfolio

The winner will be determined by adding the total points received for placement in all categories. In the case of a tie the 4 professional balloonists making up the judging panel will determine the winner.

1st place = 10 points
2nd place = 8 points
3rd place = 5 points

This coveted title is awarded to one individual who will carry the title of “Designer of the Year” for the next 12 months. You will have an individual trophy to keep.
Large Balloon Sculpture
Prizes Total $500 in Cash, Equipment and Balloon Products
• Parameters: Size no larger than 10’ x 10’ x 12’ high.
• Theme: BALLOONVILLE COUNTY FAIR
• General Rules and conditions 1 through 19 apply.

1. All entries will require the submission of a design proposal of the sculpture design and overall dimension. Please present as you normally would to a client complete with drawings/descriptions and the retail price of the design.

2. Design proposal to be submitted at Summer Balloon Camp when completing the competition registration form.

3. The original design presentation will be placed on display once competition commences.

4. Sculptures MUST be free standing.

5. There are no restrictions on materials used but balloons must form a minimum of 60% of the sculpture. This opening of restrictions is designed to encourage the balloon industry to stretch and experiment with new materials in sculptures and displays.

6. Constructions of the sculpture will commence on site in your designated area from 10:00 AM Sunday 17th of August 2008 and conclude no later than 4:00 PM Monday the 18th of August 2008.

7. Entrants may enlist the help of four volunteer assistants. Assistants must be registered for Summer Balloon Camp.

8. Entries must be designed to last at least four (4) days.
Table Centerpiece
Prizes Total $500 in Cash, Equipment and Balloon Products
• Parameters: Size to be suitable for a round table of ten (10) guests and must be easily transportable on completion. Maximum size to be 2’ x 2’ with allowance for sight lines at the table. Height maximum 6’.
• Theme: BALLOONVILLE COUNTY FAIR
• General Rules and condiitions 1 through 19 also apply.

1. Wholesale cost of materials used must not exceed $75.00

2. Construction must be completed by no more than 2 individuals during competition hours, in the area designated.

3. Entries must be completed and on display by 12 noon Monday 18th of August 2008.

4. Entries must be designed to last at least 36 hours.
Small Non-Round Balloon Sculpture
Prizes Total $500 in Cash, Equipment and Balloon Products
• Parameters: Size no larger than 4’ x 4’ x 4’ high.
• Theme: “Balloonville County Fair”
• General Rules and conditions 1 through 19 also apply.

Small Round Balloon Sculpture
Prizes Total $500 in Cash, Equipment and Balloon Products
• Parameters: Size no larger than 5’ x 5’ x 5’ high.
• Theme: “BALLOONVILLE COUNTY FAIR”
• General Rules and conditions 1 through 19 also apply.

1. All entries will require the submission of a design proposal of the sculpture design and overall dimension. Please present as you normally would to a client with drawings/descriptions and the retail price of design.

2. Design proposal to be submitted at registration at Summer Balloon Camp.

3. The original design presentation will be placed on display once competition commences.

4. Sculptures MUST be free standing.

5. There are no restrictions on materials used but round balloons must form a minimum of 60% of the sculpture. This opening of restrictions is designed to encourage the balloon industry to stretch and experiment with new materials in sculptures and displays.

6. Construction of the sculpture will commence on site in your designated area from 10:00am Sunday 17th of August 2008 and conclude 12:00 Noon Monday 18th of August 2008.

Banquet Table Centerpiece
Prizes Total $500 in Cash, Equipment and Balloon Products
• Size must be suitable for a buffet table to be viewed by all sides. Maximum size to be 4’ x 2’ x 3’ in height.
• Theme: “BALLOONVILLE COUNTY FAIR”
• General Rules and conditions 1 through 19 also apply.

1. Construction must be completed by no more than 2 individuals during competition hours, in the area designated. Entries must be completed and on display by 12:00 Noon Monday 18th of August 2008.

2. Wholesale cost of materials used in the bouquet/gift delivery must not exceed $100.00

3. Entries must be designed to last at least four (4) days.
Balloon Entertainer
Prizes Total $500 in Cash, Equipment and Balloon Products
At the Monday night party “Balloon Entertainers” will be entertaining vying for your attention and of course your vote! Make sure you vote for your favorite entertainer, as well as the other categories, at the Monday night County Fair. Presentation of this and all other competition categories will take place at the Final Night Dinner.

1. Competitors will be required to “work the crowd” at the Monday night Party. Only those delegates who have registered for this competition will be allowed to twist during these times.

2. Magic and other elements are allowed but balloons must be the primary component.

3. No figures may be pre-assembled or pre-blown.

4. Competitors will be allowed to use air pumps/inflators.

5. Competition will commence on Monday Evening 18th of August 2008 at 6:30 PM and end at 9:00 PM.

6. Only Campers attending Summer Balloon Camp will judge this competition.

7. Delegates’ votes must be cast by 10:00 PM Monday night.
